Rowing On Water

Friday 20th June saw 16 students visit the national Canoe and Kayaking centre, Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham, with Miss Wilby and Mr Greveson.
It was a beautiful day to be out on the water learning to row, and the students certainly made the most of it. The morning consisted of the boys going out on an 8-man boat, learning the rowing technique and travelling down the river, paddling in synch and turning around to come back after over an hour on the water.
Meanwhile, the girls were in individual boats and faced challenges such as standing up in the boat and doing a 360o spin without falling in the water. All of the girls were successful! The girls and boys swapped challenges in the afternoon. The girls sped down the river and picked up the team rowing technique incredibly quickly. They were true professionals by the end.
The boys, faced with the record of zero girls falling in all morning, attempted the solo-boat tasks…. Ronnie F was the first to take the plunge, shortly followed by Jonas J, Joe S and Kieran W. The rest of the boys managed to stay dry.
Overall, it was a tremendous day out on the water. The students were a true credit to Brookfield and demonstrated how adaptable their skills were, from indoor rowing club to real-life rowing on water. Well done everyone who attended!
