Special Educational Needs
Brookfield Community School is a fully inclusive mainstream school that welcomes and celebrates the diversity of our children.
The Headteacher, senior leaders, staff and governors will do their best to secure appropriate provision for any student who has an identified SEN.
Our ethos is aimed at enabling children with any SEN to maximise their potential, be included fully in our school community and make a successful transition into adult life, being respectful, resilient and ambitious young adults. Our whole school has a shared responsibility for identifying, assessing and meeting the individual student needs.
We strive to ensure that each student is fully integrated into the life of the school and be given every opportunity to develop self-confidence, self-esteem and independence. Our overall aim is to provide a high quality, structured and individualised learning programme, which ensures that each child is given the opportunity to enjoy success during their time at school.
At Brookfield, we have students with all types and levels of special need. We support students according to their needs. We realise that all students are different, and support packages need to be adapted to their needs.

Each LSA is a keyworker to a student with an EHCP, and they work closely with class teachers in order that they effectively differentiate for students with SEN within the classroom. We are committed to working with parents and welcome their advice and support.
Our facilities include a new, modernised space at the front of school, where children have an outdoor area with benches. One area is designated for intervention and at social times becomes a play space, where children play games, build Lego and socialise with others. The other classroom is a small group teaching space, which at social times, becomes our quiet area, where children can enjoy reading, computer access, colouring and drawing.
We also have:
- an Inclusion space called the ARC (Achieve, reflect and challenge)
- An achievement area where children can use time in a nurture environment to catch up and boost progress
- A reflection and time out space
- A challenge space where students are involved in alternative programmes to enhance their curriculum package
- Within the ARC, there is also a specialised area where Rebecca Marriott works with students on a 1:1 basis to establish access arrangements.
- At the rear of the ARC is a horticulture space where children can plant and sow seeds and tend to the garden to offer a wider curriculum experience.
